High-performance bipolar power supply with digital control loop, embedded Web-Server, Arbitrary Waveform Generation (AWG) and 4-channel 100-kHz Oscilloscope
The embedded Linux OS allows controlling the FAST-PS unit in a platform-independent way. The several functions provided include the user-friendly GUI with a 100-kHz AWG, a 4-channel high-precision oscilloscope (including all advanced functionalities as triggering, etc.) performed via a DMA on the on board SoC (System-On-Chip), embedded EPICS IOC, command-line communication, digital control configuration, NTP (Network Time Protocol) and much more!
The FAST-PS units can be used both as a current or voltage generator, giving precision and flexibility for different applications.
Current and voltage threshold limits can be set in C.V. and in C.C. mode respectively, and they make the power supply unit working as a C.C. source when the threshold is exceeded in C.V. mode and viceversa.
Modules rated from 100 W up to 600 W can be configured with extra features if needed, as for the Analog Control Input (on a BNC) that allows using the power unit as an amplifier and a Trigger Input.
An even higher stability option is available for very demanding and specific applications: the unit is equipped internally with a precision current transducer of the 0-FLUCS DCCT series.
The FAST-PS series is the new generation of bipolar power supplies by CAEN ELS and it was designed in order to have state-of-the-art performances both in current- and voltage-control modes.
The 10/100/1000 Mbit Ethernet connection and the two SFP slots (which can be used as electrical or optical communication channels) allow to control the power converter in two different modes: the slow interface over the Ethernet (up to 1 kHz) is intended in cases where the power supply has to be controlled at lower rates and/or to set and monitor general parameters of the unit. The fast interface over the SFP allows to run feedback loops and fast corrections by reaching a maximum update rate of 10 kHz.
The control loop, as for most of CAEN ELS power supplies, is digital in order to obtain the maximum flexibility and easiness of configuration to any connected load.
Compatibilty and integration with CAEN ELS software tools is also guaranteed for these power units: both the VISUAL PS and the CAEN ELS Device Manager software applications can be used to quickly configure, monitor, upgrade all the connected FAST-PS on the network!
The FAST-PS can be controlled either in current- or voltage-control modes and both control loops can be remotely configured.
Internal protections – e.g. over-voltage, over-current and over-temperature – are implemented as well as external interlocks are present.
The units can be also locally controlled via a display and a local interface in order to set or monitor the main parameters and status of the power supply.
Different output current, voltage and power ratings are commercially available.
The standard models of the FAST-PS are the following:

– FAST-PS 0540-200 at ±5 A and ±40 V
– FAST-PS 1020-200 at ±10 A and ±20 V
– FAST-PS 0580-400 at ±5 A and ±80 V
– FAST-PS 1040-400 at ±10 A and ±40 V
– FAST-PS 2020-400 at ±20 A and ±20 V
– FAST-PS 2040-600 at ±20 A and ±40 V
– FAST-PS 3020-600 at ±30 A and ±20 V
Optional analog control input on BNC connector (Input = ±10 V, Bandwidth = 1 kHz) can be added at the time of the order and will give backward compatibility to older systems used as amplifiers.
