FAST-Bi-1K5

The ideal solution for battery testing, EV, fuel cells, electronic loads, magnets and superconducting magnets!

The flexibility of the high-stability and high-precision new FAST-Bi-1K5 series allows operating in all four quadrants of the V-I plane. A bipolar, bidirectional and regenerative power solution that joins the state-of-the art performance of CAEN ELS with the possibility of matching basically all applications possible.

The unit can work in different modes of regulation: Constant Voltage (CV), Constant Current (CC), Constant Power (CP) and Constant Resistance (CR).

When working as a sink, the power supply feeds the excess energy back into the AC network to reduce dissipation, increase reliability thus reducing costs.

The output setting (voltage, current, power, resistance) and readback can be performed with a 24-bit @ 100 kHz resolution.

Its specifications – e.g. long-term stability, temperature coefficient, output noise – makes it also the perfect choice for a high-precision configurable electronic active load.

FAST-Bi-1K5
Embedded Web-Server with AWG and 4-channel precision Oscilloscope.

The embedded Web-Server GUI, easily accessible via the 10/100/1000 Mbit Ethernet  (TCP-IP or UDP) connection, allows monitoring and configuring the power supply for all types of tests, experiments and operations that needs to be performed.

This includes a 24-bit digital Arbitrary Waveform Generator (AWG) running at 100 kHz and a 4-channel oscilloscope that runs at the same datarate usign a DMA (Direct Memory Access).

The digital control loop, performed in the FPGA of the on-board SoC (System-on-Chip), enables the user to perfectly tune the power supply behaviour to the specific load conditions by remotely changing some parameters of the output control algorithms.

The licensing of the unique proprietary AUTO-TUNING feature will also be available soon.

The power supply also have the possibility of communicating using an ASCII-based protocol.

Real-world applications are very heterogenous and a specific power supply type may be needed for each one of them. With the FAST-Bi-1K5 series we combine all these needs in a single configurable unit.

Output Accuracy: < 0.01 % / full-scale

Long-Term Stability (over 8 hours): < 0.001 % /full-scale

Temperature Dependence: < 0.0002 %/K.

Temperature-regulated high-precision electronics and the use of our 0-FLUCS technology for current sensing makes these power supplies the perfect fit for applications where high-stability, high-precision, low noise and configurability are required. These includes the following:

  • automotive test stands;
  • EV;
  • fuel cells;
  • LED and LED drivers;
  • electronic loads;
  • electromagnets;
  • superconducting magnets;
  • power supplies characterization and testing.

Trigger input, analog control input, extra auxiliary ADC input (16-bit 100 ksps) and a K-type thermocouple input are avariabile as an options (code: FB1K5OPT0001) to match specific needs for any field of application.

A High-Bandwidth option (code: FB1K5OPT0002) is also available for applications where the output dynamics are stringent.

FAST-Bi-1K5
Maximum flexibility for battery testing with best-in-class performance, digital control and different regulation modes.

Battery testing requires a variety of operating modes, high speed and high resolution: all these are key features of this power supply series.

The high-efficiency and regenerative architecture of the FAST-Bi-1K5 also allows to reduce operation costs and power dissipation especially when a large number of units are needed.

The unit also has several features dedicated to other application, as for example the operation of superconducting magnets: a current-trimmable persistant switch heater supply output is provided on the rear side of the unit to drive persistent switches rated at 12 V or 24 V.

Voltage remote sensing is present on each unit for all the applications where the accurate and precise readback of the voltage is vital.

The high equivalent output switching frequency of the units (400 kHz or 200 kHz, depending on the model) also makes the output noise and ripple level in the bandwidth of interest very low.
